Stay Out There a Little Longer

One More Block Before the Pool Lights Win

A running story about the extra block, the fading light, and choosing not to go home yet.

The shortest possible plan

Five friends meet above the pool for one easy block before dusk closes in. Black leggings establish the calm; purple shorts, a red tee, a black crew tee, and a blue-and-white jacket make the promise visible: ordinary clothes can still open an unexpected hour.

The turn appears

They pass the ice machine and pool gate in a loose line, the red tee out front and purple flashing through the dark base. The motel driveway—the agreed turn home—arrives too soon.

The handoff

A breeze lifts from the fictional lake. The blue-and-white full-zip jacket travels hand-to-hand, and the woman in black leggings swings it on without stopping. The exchange carries everyone beyond the driveway.

A little longer

The black Altra tee comes into view with its “Stay Out There” phrase; the red tee is already rounding the next corner. One more block happens before anyone has to name it.

Buy the extra hour

They return to blue pool light and cold drinks, changed only by the extra minutes they chose together. This is running style without a podium: a black foundation, sharp color, one useful layer, and enough possibility to miss the turn home.
