The Promise
At 8:17, three short red flashes and one long cross the apartment floor. Corinne counts them in thick multicolor socks while the final washers turn downstairs.
The Answer
The pattern repeats. Through the stair rail, Corinne sees Mustafa deliberately operating the rooftop-sign switch in his crew pullover. The mystery has a hand behind it.
The Larger Question
The signal once called Mustafa's grandson Buck down after the last load. Now Buck is gone, surviving for a moment in remembered gray plaid and brown Fair Isle while Mustafa waits beneath an unanswered glow.
The Descent
Gisele stops pulling Corinne away. She takes the ivory boiled-wool blazer and red scarf from their hooks; Corinne adds black snow bibs over her bright socks. Consent becomes movement.
