Cold Water, Clear Return

Brook Trout at First Light

The Promise Beyond the Bridge

Before the lodge fully wakes, one rise beyond the bridge offers a possibility that cannot be reached from the warm room. Mara steps outside in coral plaid under a black shell; Rowan’s red scarf marks the way back.

Leave the Bank

Gray cargo pants and black-gray slip-ons move from timber to shallows. Beneath the alder, the cast disappears and the line tightens, pulling Mara off the easy bank and into the current.

Adapt to the Water

The creek narrows the choices. Mara changes her footing, lowers her center, removes the black sensor gloves, and follows the line without forcing it.

What Can Be Carried Back

A small brook trout flashes at her knees. Wet hands hold it for one clear breath; then they open, and the fish carries its color upstream.

The Clear Return

Mara turns toward the bridge. Rowan waits in black sweater fleece, a burgundy mountain-scene pom beanie, and the red plaid scarf. The lodge is the same; the return is newly chosen. Utility, color, and warmth belong together when every layer has a reason to move.
